Zentangle for relaxation

Day # 26 of the A-Z Challenge, today and for 26 days in the month of April, we talked about the various A-Z's of gratitudes in life and biz. In other words we thematically discussed based on each letter of the alphabet, various concepts in life and in business that we need to acknowledge , accept and feel grateful for.

Today our last day. I have to say this is the first time doing the A-Z challenge and it has really been a challenge but I am pleased to say I was able to not miss a day. This is probably the most I have posted on this blog yet which is exciting.

It is kind of bitter sweet for it to be ending but I am grateful that we can move on to something new for the month of May. I promise that there will be awesome new content coming your way and I am currently working on our May posting schedule.

So today, for our last day of the A-Z challenge we have the letter Z. Which I think is kind of a good way of punishing us for the last day of the challenge. Besides the limited words with Z we have to work with; there is also the practicality of how we can use a Z word to work with our theme.

Today on the last day I think we will veer off course just a little and talk about a project I have coming up so our Z word today is - Zentangle.

What is a Zentangle?

According to Zentangle.com

"The Zentangle Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns.

Almost anyone can use it to create beautiful images. It increases focus and creativity, provides artistic satisfaction along with an increased sense of personal well being. The Zentangle Method is enjoyed all over this world across a wide range of skills, interests and ages."

I am going to be doing a session where I casually teach some folks how to do a zentangle piece. I look forward to this opportunity  and am sure it will be a wonderful session.

Have you ever done Zentangle? Let me see your work!

You only Live Once

Day # 25 of the A-Z Challenge, today and for 26 days in the month of April, we will be talking about the various A-Z's of gratitudes in life and biz. In other words I will be thematically discussing based on each letter of the alphabet, various concepts in life and in business that we need to acknowledge , accept and feel grateful for.

Today our Y word is 'YOLO'.

Again, I'm cheating , YOLO is not a word but rather an abbreviation. For those of you who don't know, it means You Only Live Once .

Why am I including this in the A-Z challenge. Well one is , a  'Y' word was a challenge to choose that was going with our theme and two is, I kind of like the application of this acronym.

You only live once ....

So you should live a life worth living.

You should dream hard and work towards achieving your dreams knowing that this is the only chance you have to make them a reality.

YOLO so make things happen, work hard, sacrifice if you need to but most important- live a life worth living, make your life matter, fill it with love and happiness and loved ones because YOLO and there may be no tomorrow.

If this isn't a reason to make your creative business into something fantastic I don't know what is.

Today I am grateful for a life worth living and for working hard to achieve my dreams...and most of all for never giving up no matter how hard the road gets.

And it gets hard, really hard sometimes.

But when you step back and embrace the fact that we just got this one life to live- everything gets put in perspective.

YOLO so live your life's purpose.

and remember

"If you can hold it in your head, you can hold it in your hand"

Cheers!

Build eXperience easy

Day # 24 of the A-Z Challenge, today and for 26 days in the month of April, we will be talking about the various A-Z's of gratitudes in life and biz. In other words I will be thematically discussing based on each letter of the alphabet, various concepts in life and in business that we need to acknowledge , accept and feel grateful for.

Today our X word is X- eXperience.

Ok so I cheated a bit today and decided that my word would be eXperience ...let's just go with it.

As a creative entrepreneur experience will be of utmost importance to you in presenting yourself as knowledgeable and credible in your field. It will be a key component in getting opportunities for getting clientele as well as opportunities presented to you.

In fact in many cases "eXperience" is now seen as the key component determining whether people hire you. In the past what would have carried the most weight would have been academic achievements and education. But now that education has become more mainstream, experience is now the new cornerstone of determining credibility and value.

So how do you go from Zero to Hero? How do you gain experience when everyone is looking for experience and you got none?

It can be a hard bucket to churn sometimes but there are ways to go from having none to a lot. The idea is you want to build credibility and be seen as high value. So, what can you bring to the table for your clients?

Here are some tips to do just that:

- Look for small projects and opportunities ( even if the pay is small )
This creates a list of prior activity in your field showing you are active and doing things.

- Take on a pro bono project
Now this can be a point of contention for many. A lot of creatives have been burnt in the past by doing "work for free" OR "work in exchange for promotion". This can be a turn off to hear and I won't recommend it in MOST cases. But if you are seriously looking for something to get your name out or add to your CV this is not the worst option. Be selective in picking the project. Pick something that will be seen by a lot of people, that will give you the opportunity to network and that will be a good ticket on your CV.

- Create your own program  & project
Create your own project, program or launch where you showcase your abilities. Maybe you are a dancer so you create your own production. The idea is you aren't waiting for clients or opportunities to be offered but you create your own means. I have done this in the past where I have self hosted and curated my art exhibitions ; and you can do it too!

- Teach
Teaching is a good way to build credibility and show that you are experienced and knowledgeable in your field. Offer one on one instruction or teach in a group. Or you can use the internet to your advantage and post a video on YouTube and other video media sites. You can also host webinars and podcasts, teaching what you know.

- Interact in the community
Go to events in your field. Be seen by your peers and your potential customer base. Be aware of what is going on and participate by attending and showing support for others in the creative fields. This is also a great way to network. You are perceived as being credible and experienced when you are constantly being seen within the sphere of your creative community.

and last but not least...

- Blog
Blogging is not dead! It is a great way to build credibility. When you write your posts write about things that concern you within your field. Write about your experiences as a ..." photographer", "dancer", "singer", "baker"....etc Write from your knowledge and offer advice.

All of these things are great ideas for building eXperience and credibility in your creative business.

What about you , do you have any ideas on how you can build experience & credibility in your biz?

What tools do you use to showcase your eXperience?
